JOHOR BARU: She may be computer illiterate but when it comes to filing her income tax returns, she goes e-Filing.

Tailor Hong Poh Chin, 34, was at the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) office here to collect the forms.

The staff persuaded her to file the returns online.

“I was scared as I did not know how to use a computer. But the staff said they would sit with me and go through the steps one-by-one,” she said.

Easy does it: Nor’azam (left) helping Hong to do her e-Filing at the IRB counter in Johor Baru on Wednesday.

Hong gave it a go and found it more convenient than the manual process.

“It is a lot faster and easier,” she added.

Technician Mohd Nordin Omar, 48, found the process faster this year.

“The queue is short, so there is not much waiting time,” he said.

Hong and Mohd Nordin were among those who did e-Filing at the 30 computers set up for the public at the IRB office.

IRB Johor Baru public relations assistant director Nor’azam Sulaiman said that about 300 people came to use the computers daily since last month.

“But the line moves very fast. Everyone spends about 10 minutes at the computer and they are done,” he said.

Counters at the IRB offices in Bangunan Hasil (Johor Baru) and Wisma Bunga (Kluang) will be open everyday from 8am to 10pm from April 16 to April 30.

At the IRB office in Wisma Tiam Lock, Muar, the counters will be open from 8am to 6pm on weekdays, and 8am to 5pm on weekends.
