Posted by Trevor Keegan under Tax in the News , Personal Tax , e-FilingKuala Lumpur: The Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) will impose the penalty on tax payers for delayed submission of their tax returns, LHDN Chief Executive Officer Hasmah Abdullah said. She said the board would not extend the deadline for submission of the returns despite appeals by certain quarters.
“The LHDN will not extend the period for submission of the returns and those who delay sending in the forms will be penalised,” she said.
The last date for returning the BE Form for individual tax payers was April 30 and the last date for returning the B Form for companies and corporate firms is June 30 2007.
It is estimated that almost four million individuals and companies are required to pay income tax this year. Hasmah said the LHDN had received about 3.4 million forms, out of which 2.1 million were BE forms and 1.3 million B forms.
She said individuals and companies which failed to return their forms would be fined between RM50 and RM100 for the first offence and between RM100 and RM200 for the second offence and so on until a maximum of RM2,000.
Hasmah said the number of submissions of returns via e-filing over the Internet, which was introduced in 2005, had risen to 569,990 for individual tax payers compared to 189,000 last year. She said the LHDN anticipated that tax collection this year would exceed the RM65.7 billion collected last year.
